Markham – Steward Election

| 23/11/2015

There will be a steward election at Markham campus on November 26 from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. in room M315 to fill a vacant position.

Any full-time or partial-load professor, counsellor, or librarian  who is a member in good standing of the union (and has officially registered with the union by way of filling out an OPSEU membership form) may stand for election as a steward.

  • Nominees need only one nominator.
  • Nominees must indicate their willingness to stand for office once all the candidates have been nominated.
  • Nominees unable to be present for the election may indicate their willingness to stand for office by submitting to the officiating officer a signed, written notice so indicating.

Elected stewards are provided with all necessary training and support. Steward responsibilities include assisting members with questions, helping publicize union activities and events, and  representing the needs and concerns of the members in their area. The time commitment is small; stewards also attend the Local Executive Committee (LEC) meetings which are held every few months.

Support your union by standing for election as steward or by coming out to vote for a steward. If you have questions, contact us at
