On Friday, June 18th 2021 Seneca College announced that vaccinations will be a requirement for anyone returning to in-person on-campus activities, starting in Fall 2021.

Instructions for Full-time and Partial-load Professors, Instructors, Counsellors, and Librarians Who Do Not Plan to be Vaccinate by September 7, 2021

Faculty members who are not required to work on campus

Full-time faculty members should have been informed by now from your immediate supervisor on whether you are required to work remotely. If you are a Partial-load Professor, please immediately contact your Chair for your employment contract and ascertain whether you are required to teach remotely or “in-person” on campus.

If you have been assigned to work remotely, you do not need to do anything at this time.

If you have been directed by your immediate supervisor to work “in-person” on campus, then follow the instructions below.

Faculty members who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons

If you cannot receive the Covid-19 vaccinations due to a medical condition or disability, complete this linked form with your doctor or nurse practitioner and forward the documentation to Human Resources. Please contact ">President Frank Yee and Office Manager, ">Krystal McHugh, if you must attend a meeting or need assistance.

Faculty members who cannot be vaccinated for religious (creed) reasons

If you cannot receive the Covid-19 vaccinations because of religious (creed) beliefs, please complete this linked form with an authority from your religious organization and forward the documentation to Human Resources. Please contact ">President Frank Yee and Office Manager, ">Rose Perera, if you must aRend a meeting or need assistance.

Faculty members who will not be vaccinated for all other reasons

If you will not be receiving a first dose of an approved Covid-19 vaccine prior to August 24th (14 days prior to September 7th), then please immediately send an email to your immediate supervisor, to let them know you are not going to be vaccinated by September 7th.

• Advise them that you are willing to do other academic work remotely from September to December.

• Request a response about whether you can be assigned alternative academic duties, or will be forced to take a leave, and whether that leave will be with pay or without pay.

Seneca’s Vaccine Workshops

Seneca, OPSEU and our Central Health & Safety Committees are hosting workshops on the Covid 19 Vaccine. These workshops are informative and attendance may help bolster your case, should a grievance be filed.

Filing a Grievance

You have 20 days from the date of a violation of our Collective Agreement to file a grievance. You cannot file a grievance before the contract has been violated. Your grievance “trigger” will be the date your immediate supervisor responds to say you will not be accommodated, or you will be placed on a Leave Without Pay, or your contract will be cancelled, or when you are notified of any other “disciplinary measure” to be taken as a result of not complying with the College’s recent vaccination policy.
